It started in the summer of 2013 as a custom game created among friends. It was meant to be a mishmash of tile-grid tactics combined with popular Player versus Player card mechanics.
Using parody as the inspiration, a wide assortment of fun designs came up and the project grew over time, eventually spanning into a full-fledged indie title that one could expect to see on store shelves next to MUNCHKIN and other popular tabletop choices.
Late 2013 saw the first physical release of the Alpha prototype, with placeholder images and just a bit of the basic graphic design put together to make it a solid working game.
Moving forward into 2016 with new and fully fleshed-out artwork, Clash of the Genres went into its first retail release prototype. This version is still available on Tabletop Simulator as "Classic" COTG. With 160 cards, and supporting up to 8 players, this version was controlled chaos!
